It can be difficult to find good Pinot Noir at bargain prices. Actually we have always found it to be the most difficult of the major varieties. You can get good Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Malbec and so on for under $20. Not so much with Pinot Noir. Low priced options tend to be watery and forgettable. There are a few you can count on, however. This is one of those.
Wine: 2013 La Crema Sonoma Pinot Noir
Winery Location: Sonoma County, CA
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: December 2015
Tasting Notes: – the wine is a medium dark red, with a purple grapey tone leaning toward garnet. The nose is full of red fruit, with cherry dominating and some nuances of rasberry along with tobacco. On the palate the cherry comes through with some oak and a little spice at the end. This is very good quality, delicious and reasonably priced Pinot.
Price Point – under $20
Would We Buy It? – yes, as this is one of the under $20 Pinot Noirs you can count on year in and year out.
La Crema is a name to remember when you want a good Pinot and don’t want to spend a lot. This vintage is no exception.
