A Refreshing Summer Rose from Michel Chapoutier

It is certainly rosé season, although some rosé has the complexity and depth to make it a year round wine.  Here we’ll review one that is very much suited to the summer, and a chilled glass on a warm day.  It’s from Michel Chapoutier, and traditional is a blend of Syrah and Grenache grapes.  Michel is making some excellent wines at Domaine de Bila-Haut in southern France’s Roussillon region.  We have reviewed several in the past, and have liked them all.  Let’s see what this one brings:

Bila-haute roseWine:    2017 Domaine de Bila-Haut Les Vignes de Bila-Haut Pays d’Oc Rosé

Winery Location:   Roussillon, southern France

Tasted By:  Neil        Date:  May 2018

Tasting Notes:  A rich, salmon pink in color, the wine has fresh aromas of strawberries and some citrus, with blood orange coming to mind.  On the palate the wine is clean and fresh, with good acid.  This one is built for summer, especially with the bright strawberry component.  Chill it and sip it on the deck, at the beach or anywhere you’d like.

Price Point –    $15

Would We Buy It?    maybe, but we’re not generally big rosé people.  If you like summer rosés, then you will like this.

The wines from Bila-Haut are well made, vibrant, and present good values.  This one is no different.  We have one of the higher end wines from the property coming in for review soon, and will share our thoughts on that when we get it.

A votre santé!
