It’s always good to have a short list of reliable producers you can rely on in just about any vintage. Having that familiar name makes a sometimes difficult choice easier. This wine and producer fit that mold perfectly. We always know we’re going to get a well made, good value wine. Here it is:
Wine: 2019 E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône
Winery Location: Southern Rhone
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: May 2023
Tasting Notes: made from a blend of Syrah and Grenache, this wine is consistent in every vintage as well as a pretty classic representation of a Côtes du Rhône. A dark wine with a nose of black plum combined with savory notes, gastrique and light oak. On the palate it is full bodied, rich and quite tannic still. This is a brawny wine right now, and will soften with some age. That said it is quite enjoyable today, although I would decant for an hour prior to serving. Classic profile.
Price Point – $13
Would We Buy It? – this really is a no-brainer of a wine. For $13 you get a classic southern Rhone Valley wine with lots of fruit, complexity and power. It’s a great value here, and we will certainly buy more at some point. You can’t go wrong with a bottle from Guigal.
There you have it: a dependable bottle from a super dependable producer. This one is a solid buy at any time.
A votre santé!
