There are so many delicious white wines from around the world, so why not expand our horizons and try more of them? I can’t think of a good reason not to. We all have favorites, but it might just be your new favorite that is waiting out there. Here’s one to consider.
Wine: 2022 Ostatu Rioja Blanco
Winery Location: Rioja, Spain
Tasted By: Neil Date: May 2023
Tasting Notes: The color is a pale straw, and the wine has a rich nose of stone fruit, lychee and lots of minerality. There is a beautiful mouthfeel with some body and structure. This has brisk acid that keeps it fresh and the overall sensation is a little tangy. Fruit lingers throughout, and lemon comes in at the end. You sense almost a touch of effervescence as well. This is very refreshing, a little different and a great summer white. I love white Rioja, a very underappreciated varietal. Primarily made from the Viura grape, wines are generally under $20 and of very high quality. Where red Rioja represents some of the best values in red wine on the planet, you can say really the same on the white side. I suggest you try some.
Price Point – $19
Would We Buy It? – Yes. As mentioned above, Rioja Blanco is is a favorite. It is different and more available now than it was a few years ago. That’s a very good thing.
