We’ve been reviewing some Beaujolais recently, from the 2018 vintage, and we can say that so far it is a vintage that every wine lover should take note of. The wines are richer and deeper than usual, and they bring great fruit as well as complexity. Some are going to age for a decade or more. Here we’ll look at a lower priced Beaujolais, but one that seriously over delivers. Here is the wine:
Wine: 2018 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais-Village
Winery Location: Beaujolais, France
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: August 2020
Tasting Notes: part of the Georges Duboeuf Flower Series, this wine is surprisingly dark and carries a big nose filled with berries, along with a touch of cherry kirsch and a hint of menthol. It is medium+ bodied, and quite rich. The beautiful berry fruit holds sway throughout. It is long, with mild tannins, and really represents a tremendous value.
Price Point – $13.99 Suggested Retail Price
Would We Buy It? – Yes, by the case. This is a great value in Beaujolais, and wine in general. We’ve had several vintages of the Duboeuf Beaujolais Village, and it always over delivers. This is one of the best yet.
Try some Beaujolais, and only spend a little to do it. We’ll have more reviews of 2018 Beaujolais coming up.
A votre santé!
