While we haven’t reviewed a Portuguese wine in several weeks, we have been drinking them. In fact we have a few reviews to catch up on. This is one of them. It represents an excellent bottle of red wine for under $10. Here’s the review:
Wine: 2009 Reccua Douro Tinto Winery Location: Douro Valley, Portugal
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: January 2015
Tasting Notes: – produced by Caves Vale do Rodo, this is a deep, ruby red, and the nose throws off a bouquet of red fruits. Cherry and strawberry come out, and there are others buried in there. The palate delivers red fruit as well, with very subtle oak evident. Tannins are a little firm but not overly so, and there is a nice acid balance here. This would be great with pizza, among other things. It’s quite nice to just drink as well. We had it with pot roast the next day and that worked too. A long finish brings a cool red licorice flavor. It’s medium+ bodied, not really full. That’s OK though, as we really enjoyed this wine. An easy drinking red with a lot of good qualities.
Price Point – under $10
Would We Buy It? – Certainly. This is another excellent value from Portugal. It’s very high in quality for the price and we’re adding it to the value list.
When will this torrent of excellent values from Portugal end? Never, hopefully!
A votre sante!
