April Wine Events in the Rhode Island Area

Let’s review a few of the upcoming wine and food events.  There are several, and unfortunately some occur simultaneously.  Still, it means there’s plenty to do this month, and plenty of wine to try.  Let take a look.  Most of this is from event press releases, and it will give you what you need to look further and buy tickets.

April 10/11:

Savor! CT

Savor! is set up to be a great way to spend a weekend, or just a day.  Grand Tasting events happen both Friday night and savor logo jpgSaturday afternoon.  During these you can “Sip, Savor & Stroll” for hours through world class wine, beer and food.  The winery list is impressive, and includes names such as Casey Flat Ranch (that’s right – one of our favorite wineries anywhere), Caymus, J. Lohr, Merriam, Newton, Rutherford and William Hill, to name a few.  Dozens of local restaurants will participate in providing the bites throughout the Grand Tastings.  These are all inclusive events – you get the wine, the food and you get the cooking demonstrations from world renowned chefs such as Robert Irvine, Mary Ann Esposito and Ming Tsai.  Tyler Anderson will be there, and we’ve had his food several times back when he was Executive Chef at the Copper Beech Inn, in Ivoryton, CT.  We remember it being quite excellent.

Saturday night is the Charity Gala, which starts with a bubbly reception hosted by Chandon and then moves to a moving, walking around dinner and dessert prepared by the great chefs in attendance and accompanied by wines and other libations.  This should be a great evening of food and drink.

The website for Savor is at http://www.savorct.com/index.html.  You can buy tickets and plan your attack.  All events are at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, and there are rooms available at the attached Marriot through the Area Hotels link on the Savor page.

April 16th:

Mystic Aquarium’s South African Cocktail Party Thursday, April 16 6:30-9:30pm

Ocean Blue Catering and Mystic Aquarium host an annual South African Wine Dinner. Always a sell-out, they have extended the festivities with the introduction of the South African Cocktail Party, allowing guests to enjoy a ‘bite’ of the experience!

The menu will feature passed and stationed ‘mini bites’ of the items served at popular dinner like Peri-Peri Shrimp Crustinis, Sosaties, Melktert, and more, plus a selection of South African wines.   There will also be live music and a cash bar.

The guests of honor are none other than Mystic Aquarium’s South African penguins!

They are among our most popular species. And while, they are a fan favorite, the presence of African penguin here at Mystic Aquarium is important to the survival of this endangered species. We invite you to learn more at mysticaquarium.org.

Tickets for Mystic Aquarium’s South African Cocktail Party are priced at $34.95 per person and must be purchased in advance by visiting mysticaquarium.org or by calling Reservations at 860.572.5955 ext. 520. Guests must be at least 21 years of age.

These sound like fun.  Drinking wine with the penguins is always good.

A votre sante!
