Great Bordeaux vintages are one of our favorite things. They age effortlessly, get better with time and are just wide rivers of fruit with complex nuances. We popped a 2002 Magrez-Tivoli for Thanksgiving, and it was wonderful. This week we opened a 2015 gem, and it is worth talking about.
Winery Location: St.Emilion, Bordeaux, France
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: December 2020
Tasting Notes: the wine is very dark ruby in color, with a nose of dark fruits, blackberry being prominent, as well as cedar wood and caramel. This is big, and you can tell that right away. It looks like a young wine, and really is considering it is Bordeaux from a stellar vintage. On the palate this is luscious, and mouthcoating. There is endless dark fruit, medium tannins and some acid to keep it all from going over the top. The finish goes on and on. The wine is 15% alcohol and luxurious.
Price Point – about $65-$70
Would We Buy It? – yes, and we did pick up a few bottles. This is in splurge wine territory for us, and not something we drink every week. We are very glad we did splurge a bit here though, as the wine is exceptional. It would make a wonderful bottle to help celebrate your holidays.
This is a wine to consider for a special occasion. Highly recommended.
