We love wines that have a pure, focused core of fruit, the kind that runs through the middle of the wine and doesn’t stop. Sometimes it is a wide stream, sometimes it is the Mississippi. You know it when you taste it, and it is a beautiful thing.
This wine has that characteristic. Let’s take a look.
Wine: 2019 Vintage Longbottom H Syrah
Winery Location: Fruit from the Adelaide Hills, South Australia
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: April 2021
Tasting Notes: This is made from two separate vineyard blocks, and is blended after spending 19 months in barrel. This juice is a medium dark, purplish red. The nose is full of cherry notes, with vanilla, floral and something herbal. On the palate, it is smooth and fresh with red plum and berries, but it is the purity of the fruit that strikes you. Here is the river I mentioned above. It is not quite the Mississippi, but it is unmistakable. Overall the wine has some complex nuances, medium tannins and a nice, long finish. Above everything is that fruit. Quality wine. It is 100% Syrah and 13.9% alcohol.
Price Point – $29.99
Would We Buy It? – we would. It’s a $30 bottle, so you expect something pretty excellent. That’s what you get.
This is a solid value at this price, and it is delicious.
