We normally would not get too excited about a wine and painting event. Not that there’s anything wrong with them, it’s just that they have sprung up everywhere. We imagine it’s a good way to spend a few hours with friends. The wine, we assume, is not exactly great. The quality of the art is probably the same, depending in some degree on how much of the wine is consumed. Yet here we are touting just such an evening, but this one is different. How? That is simple – you get to hang out with this guy!
Both the sea lions and the penguins create art at Mystic Aquarium. We gave our daughter one of the penguin pictures for her birthday last year. The animals are great, seeing them up close is even greater and the best part of events like these is a portion of the proceeds goes towards the mission of the aquarium. It’s all good. Well, maybe the wine won’t be great, but that’s OK in this case.
There will be a cash bar as well, so things will work out fine.
The press release is below.
A votre santé!

MYSTIC AQUARIUM OFFERS CREATIVITY FOR A CAUSE WITH NEW EVENT
Mystic Aquarium’s Ocean Blue Catering to Host Canvas & Vino
Mystic, Conn. (January 6, 2015): Mystic Aquarium’s Ocean Blue Catering and TDP Art Studios of New London have teamed up to offer a traditional “wine and design” class with a bit of flare and a lot of care. On Thursday, February 11 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, TDP Art Studios will provide art instructions as part of Ocean Blue Catering’s “Canvas & Vino” event. A portion of the proceeds from every event ticket sold goes to support Mystic Aquarium’s “One Ocean, One Mission” initiatives towards conservation, education, and, of course, animal care.
The session begins with an overview of how sea lions at Mystic Aquarium use painting as an enrichment activity. Experience a behind-the-scenes painting activity that sharpens the mind of young sea lions and learn why painting is important to animal care. Get up-close to these marvelous creatures and learn about their species during a private meet-and-greet session.
The ticket price of $65 ($55 members) includes this unique animal encounter, instructions for the creation of an animal-themed painting, supplies, light hors d’oeuvres, two glasses of wine and the gratification of supporting a worthy cause. There will also be a cash bar at this 21+ event. Advanced registration is required.
Guests will be entered into a raffle to win the animal masterpiece created at the start of the event.
Get creative for a cause. A portion of the proceeds from every event ticket sold goes to support Mystic Aquarium’s mission programs.
A family friendly event is scheduled for Friday, February 26 2016 from 5:30pm – 8:30pm as Mystic Aquarium’s Ocean Blue Catering and TDP Art Studios host Canvas & Cookies: Color Crawl.
