This Thursday, June 11, Mark Gasbarro is hosting another excellent, and free, wine tasting. Caymus comes to town with a great lineup of wines. The time is 6:00 to 8:00 at Gasbarro’s Wines on Federal Hill in Providence, RI. Here are the wines and their descriptions from Caymus. You can try them and see if you agree!
Mer Soleil Chardonnay Reserve 2012
This Chardonnay has aromas of peach, apple, and baking spices. The palate offers peach and D’Anjou pear; layered with pineapple and banana. The vibrant acidity is well balanced by butterscotch and coconut that seamlessly meld together to create mouthfilling richness. It is medium to full bodied with a burst of minerality and well integrated oak which offer a round, lengthy finish.
Mer Soleil Silver Chardonnay 2012
This Chardonnay is well balanced with great structure. Bright minerality, pink grapefruit and key lime shine through on the nose, followed by lemon zest and stonefruit. The palate displays notes of lemon meringue and citrus, complemented by a crisp acidity.
Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc 2013
This is an elegant and refined style of Sauvignon Blanc that is subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity. The nose offers citrus, iron, wet stone and a hint of D’Anjou pear, while a crisp lightness and underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest please the palate.
Emmolo Merlot 2012
This Merlot is made in an explosively rich, blockbuster style. It offers blackcurrant and black cherry fruit with hints of espresso and chocolate. Full bodied and super-rich, it is the complete package – from aromatics to an impressive entry, a full, savory midpalate, and a long finish.
Belle Glos Dairyman Pinot Noir 2013
This Pinot Noir offers aromas of ripe cherry, fleshy black plum, dried rose petal, smoke, thyme and anise. The palate has berries, cream, raspberry, cranberry and cherry which are nicely balanced by vanilla cream and a rich, rounded mouthfeel. It offers the perfect balance of sweet and savory notes along with balanced structure, bright acidity, silky tannins, and a long, lingering finish.
Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
The 2013 growing season was another great one in Napa Valley. This Cabernet is deep red and opulent in color. The bouquet has dark cherry and blackberry, subtly layered with warm notes of vanilla. The palate is explosive, bright and balanced with cassis at the center, with flourishes of cocoa and sweet tobacco.
Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
A rich, dense ruby color hints at the nose of blackberry and currant that carry through to the palate, interwoven with complex aromas of black licorice, anise and crème de cassis. On the palate, the wine opens up to reveal an earthiness, with brown spice, cigar box and ripe dark fruits that linger throughout the extracted and long finish. The texture is opulent and rich, yet has a velvety quality with supple density. Rich, fine grained tannins are balanced with ripe fruit, acidity and oak.
Definitely worth the trip.
