Let’s take a quick excursion into the wine cellar and talk about a great wine, from a great region, and a great vintage as well. That’s a triple play of greatness, and you would expect that the juice was fairly exceptional. It was. Here it is:
Wine: 2006 Tenute de Cerro La Poderina Brunello di Montalcino
Winery Location: Montalcino, Italy
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: July 2018
Tasting Notes: The wine is a dark red, tending toward a maroon and showing the maroon clearly on the rim. It’s starting to show a bit of age in appearance. The nose is full of dark fruit, with black cherry prominent. Leather and herbal notes round it out. On the palate it is full bodied, rich and beautifully balanced, and not showing much age at all. It finishes extremely long. Yum. This is fabuous and drinking beautifully right now.
Price Point – $45 back when we bought it. This is likely a tough find right now, but if you see it I would jump on it.
Would We Buy It? – If we find it at $55 or under a few bottles might find their way home!
Wow – this really is a great wine from a great region and a great vintage. Brunello has had a pretty good run, including recently with 2010, 2012 and 2013. If you’re looking at older vintages stay away from 2002. A good Brunello with a little age on it is a wonderful thing.
A votre santé!
