We’ve reviewed many wines produced by Nik Weis, purveyor of classic German Riesling from the great regions of the Mosel and Saar Valleys. We generally rave about them, as they are pure, elegant and vibrantly complex. Superbly well made is another thought that comes to mind. Here we have another wine in this mold, not very surprisingly.
Wine: 2018 Nik Weis Wiltinger Kabinett Riesling
Winery Location: Mosel, Germany.
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: October 2020
Tasting Notes: Made with fruit from Wiltinger village area in the Saar Valley, this wine is a light straw color, with some green hints. The nose is fruity, with apple, some citrus (pomelo), floral, spice and that beautiful touch of petrol that announces the entrance of a German style Riesling. On the palate it is off dry. This has good mouth feel and structure. It’s very smooth, delicate in profile but not light. The citrus turns to lemon at the back. Very well made and a clearly superior Riesling. Another winner for Nik Weis.
Price Point – $19.99
Would We Buy It? – yes, we just love Nik Weis Rieslings in general, and this is no exception. You generally can’t go wrong with one of his wines.
Classic Riesling is so versatile. It goes with many foods, is great to just sip, and should be enjoyed year round. From dry to sweet, this is one of the great wine grapes of the world, and this bottle is a worthy example.
