If you’re looking for a sure thing in a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, grabbing a bottle of Substance Cabernet Sauvignon is a great option. You’re going to get a really solid wine at a great price, made by iconic winemaker Charles Smith. We reviewed the 2018 version a while back, and you can read about that here. Let’s take a look at a bottle of the 2019 vintage we recently found on a supermarket shelf.
Wine: 2019 Substance Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Location: Columbia Valley, Washington
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: August 2023
Tasting Notes: the color is a medium, ruby red. On the nose you get berries including currants, cherry and some mint. The juice is medium+ bodied with medium tannins. The berry fruit forms the core on the palate with some herbs, with the mint noticeable. This has nice acid, good balance and a long finish. It’s a very solid wine all around.
Price Point – about $15
Would We Buy It? – Yes, repeatedly. This consistent, value priced bottle drinks way above its price point. Always recommended and the 2019 is no exception.
We’ll keep buying current and future vintages of Substance Cabernet. There really is no reason not to.
