Ferraton Père & Fils makes a variety of wines in the Rhone Valley, from Côtes du Rhône in the south to Hermitage in the north. We have reviewed several of their wines over the past few years, and have found them excellent. Here we have the latest vintage of their La Matinière Crozes-Hermitage. Based on previous versions we expect something quite good.
Wine: 2017 Ferraton Père & Fils Crozes-Hermitage “La Matinière”
Winery Location: grapes from the Crozes-Hermitage AOC
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: November 2019
Tasting Notes: this wine is 100% Syrah from the Northern Rhone Valley. Fermentation occurs in large vats, followed by 12 months of aging in oak barrels. It is a purplish red, not really cherry red, and has a fruit forward nose of red berries, with some definite cherry as well. This wine is all about the fruit, and it is lush on the palate, medium bodied and smooth. It is also very long. Overall this is a delicious, well made wine. A good value, as always.
Price Point – $26
Would We Buy It? – We would. Every wine we’ve reviewed from Ferraton has been very good to excellent. That is what we expect, and that is what we have here.
