Here is a wine to add to your list of dependable, go to wines that are always good, always a good value, and something you simply can’t go wrong with. We’ve been drinking it for years. The producer is Bodega Catena Zapata, from Mendoza in Argentina. You can find values all over their price spectrum, from their high priced (but worth it) single vineyard Malbecs, to this more modest mainstay. We have generally found them all to be good. For a glimpse of some of their higher end wines, you can read our seminar review from last year’s Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival by clicking here. There were some amazing wines in that group.
Now, about this wine:
Winery Location: Mendoza, Argentina
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: July 2019
Tasting Notes: a dark, reddish purple wine, this has a rich nose of berry fruit and violets. The palate is medium bodied, with elegant, red currant fruit. This has good length and is solid all the way. It finishes nicely. Always a go to wine, this is a solid value and a pretty sure thing when you want a good bottle at a reasonable price.
Price Point – Somewhere in the $15-$20 range, depending on where you buy it.
Would We Buy It? – always, as this is delicious and a good value.
Some wines are like old friends, comfortable and dependable. This wine is like that.
A votre santé!
