We picked up a few bottles of Merlot during a sale at our local grocery store last month, and mixed and matched between some names we knew and some we didn’t. The wine reviewed here is from a name we know well, and is an excellent value for the price.
Wine: 2017 Sebastiani North Coast Merlot
Winery Location: Sonoma County, CA
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: June 2021
Tasting Notes: A dark red in color, with some amber at the rims, this juice has a rich nose filled with blackberry and currants, along with leather, herbs and chocolate. It’s actually quite complex, and then full bodied on the palate. Soft tannins and a long finish frame a fruit driven wine with no hard edges. This is a very good red wine, and a good value.
Price Point – $17 and a Value List wine a that price.
Would We Buy It? – We did and we will if we can find some more. This is very pleasing bottle of California red wine under $20.
This bottle is well worth bringing home if you run across some.
A votre santé!
