A while back we reviewed a variety of wines from Valentin Bianchi. Across the board they were impressive, and you can read more about that by clicking here. One wine we did not include in that review was their high end red blend, the Enzo Bianchi. The great people at Quintessential Wines (see their website here) sent along a bottle for review, and we’d like to pass on our impressions.
Wine: 2010 Valentin Bianchi – Enzo Bianchi Winery Location: Mendoza, Argentina
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: February, 2016
Tasting Notes: Dark purple red in color the wine offers a nose of dark fruits, tobacco, oak, berries, cherry and a little tar. So obviously we thought it was quite complex. Initially the palate was a bit restrained, but as the wine opened it lengthened and became more of a full body, deep profile wine. It is very, very long. This is quite like a high quality, Left Bank Bordeaux, although not exactly. It has its own identity. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 4% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.
Price Point – $54.99
Would We Buy It? – This is not inexpensive, but it is excellent. It compares favorably to other wines in this price range. High quality clearly, and worthy of the price tag. This is the kind of wine we would buy a bottle of for a special occasion and put in the cellar.
We’re quickly discovering the producers in South America make many extremely high value wines across the board. They also make some premium, world class wines as well. This is one.
