Since we were kind of holed up in the house Monday and Tuesday while Hurricane Sandy held sway, it seemed like a good time to open a couple of the not for every day wines. They do like it when they get to come out and play, so everyone was happy. We were fortunate to not suffer any significant effects in Cranston, but our well wishes go out to all of those that did.
The wines were a 2004 Stonestreet Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley and a 2008 Rutherford Hill Barrel Select Red from Napa. The Cab was big and fruity with great tannins and an overall excellent finish. Really good stuff. Unfiltered so don’t tip the bottle into your glass! The second was a Bordeaux blend which was a good contrast. Great fruit (cherry) and much lighter in body and leaner in overall impression, yet still very good. Would be excellent with a steak.
