Summer is considered by many to be Rosé time. While we are not the biggest fans of rosé, we can certainly appreciate a good, chilled glass on a warm day. Some rosés however, as it is with all varietals and wine styles, step up and deliver a bit more. Here we’ll take a look at such a wine. This is a rosé to drink anytime, anywhere.
We have reviewed several wines from Maison Ferraton Père & Fils in the past. The house makes wine in the Rhone Valley, from many of the storied areas of the region and at various price points. This particular wine is from the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, from vines grown in alluvial soils. It is primarily Grenache, along with some Syrah and Cinsault. Let’s take a look:
Wine: 2017 Ferraton Père & Fils Côtes-du-Rhône Samorëns Rosé
Winery Location: Headquartered in l’Hermitage, wines from around the Rhône
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: May 2018
Tasting Notes: This is a rich salmon color, and has a bright nose of raspberry, a little citrus and a hint of anise. There is certainly some complexity to this, and you get that feeling immediately. On the palate the wine has red berries, orange and remains clean throughout. It finishes very long and carries subtle nuances with it the whole way. This is excellent, and not your average Rosé. The minerality gets more focused at the end. You can drink this anytime, anywhere.
Price Point – $15 – and a great value there.
Would We Buy It? – absolutely – this is a quality wine at a very good price. Not your average, everyday rosé by any measure.
So maybe we will drink more rosé. This wine would a good reason why.
A votre santé!
