We just returned from an amazing trip to Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Barolo and Barbaresco. This was interesting and historical, luxurious, relaxing and a culinary delight. When you consider the wines it really gets good. To do the trip justice will require different reports on the trip summary, some of the side excursions, the hotels (which were 5 star and just phenomenal) and of course the wine. In the middle of Stresa on Lake Maggiore is a little wine shop that has to be seen to be believed. Only a 45 minute drive out of Stresa is a small village that time seems to have forgotten, and which also has a winery using traditional methods with excellent results.
Then there were the mountains. Huge, magnificent and always there in Stresa and Como. In Alba, which sits right between Barolo and Barbaresco, the mountains become rolling hills and are just covered with vines. Here wine rules.
It will take weeks to document most of this, so look for many blogs as we unwind our travel tape. This was pretty special.
A votre sante!
