Friday, April 17th is World Malbec Day. Initially created by Wines of Argentina, the day highlights the flagship winegrape of Argentina, with events around the world. Many people know about Malbec, many have tried some, but I would bet few have tried a really great one, and there certainly are great Malbecs. Some of the best come from the Mendoza region, in Argentina. We have reviewed many over the years, some recently, some not so recent. If you’d like to read more about some excellent Malbec based wines, click on the following links. A very recent favorite is reviewed here, a blend of Malbec and other grapes, from an amazing winemaker. Going back further, here is a great, everyday wine which is consistently an easy value pick. Also, by clicking here you can read our review of a series of higher end, single vineyard Malbecs from Catena Zapata. Some of these were flat out amazing, and worthy of consideration in any discussion about truly great wine.
So try a Malbec, and celebrate World Malbec Day. It is a worthy grape.
A votre santé!
