Here is a wine that is just a flat out great value. It drinks like a $50 Cab. It costs half of that. No further introduction needed.
Wine: 2017 Outlot Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Location: Alexander Valley, Sonoma County
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: November 2020
Tasting Notes: Dark, deep ruby in color, with long legs on the glass. The nose is full of blueberry, cherry and rasberry fruit, accented with caramel and tobacco notes. This has a really rich nose. On the palate the wine is smooth as silk. There are medium tannins, and they persist through the finish, but are fine grained. It is full bodied, chock full of berry fruit, well balanced and really long. This is good stuff.
Price Point – SRP of $24.99
Would We Buy It? – We’d buy this all day, and we tried to. You might have a tough time finding the 2017, but all that means is look for the 2018. When a wine delivers this far over its price point chances are you just found a superior producer and should be looking for anything they make.
Outlot Wines does also makes a Sauvignon Blanc and a Chardonnay. Something tells me they are likely also great. We’ll be looking out for newer vintages of the Cab, and if we stumble upon a cache of the 2017, we’re buying all of it. Sorry.
This is a great value wine, and it goes on our Value List. It will also be making an appearance on our Top 25 Wines of 2020 coming out over the holidays.
