Great vintage Bordeaux, as we have said many times, is one of the best things on the planet. You can get top Cru quality from lesser Chateaux in a great vintage, and pay very little considering the overall value. Plus they age beautifully, and not just the big names. This wine is a classic example of what we’re referring to.
Winery Location: Margaux Appellation, Bordeaux, France
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: November 2021
Tasting Notes: This is the top wine of Chateau D’Arsac, and is allowed the Margaux designation. Not a classified growth, this is Cru Bourgeois at its best, from an excellent vintage in Bordeaux. The quality was especially high in Margaux on the Left Bank in 2015. This wine is a transparent ruby to garnet in color. The nose is full of cherry and berry fruit, with floral and vanilla notes along with some herbs. There is lots more cherry on the palate. Great wines tend to have a focused core of fruit, and this has that. It is still vibrant, fresh and balanced. It is also very long. Overall this is a delicious example of what you can get from a top vintage in Bordeaux without having to pay for classified growth prices. It drinks beautifully right now and has a long life still ahead of it.
Price Point – Still available at around $35
Would We Buy It? – Sure would, and obviously did. We picked this up as some of our 2015 Bordeaux futures. We’ll watch it evolve over the next decade or so by pulling a bottle every few years. Or maybe we’ll get more!
This wine is highly recommended and still available. You can pick up a case at Millesima pre-arrival for $350 plus sales taxes and tariffs, but you might have to wait a little for it to get to you. That is a great price for a perfectly aged Bordeaux of this quality.
