In the never ending pursuit of a good $10 bottle of red, here is a worthy entry. It might take a sale price to get it there, but this is a solid bottle in the $10 range. Over the years we’ve had many wines from this family owned producer, and they are always good.
Wine: 2020 Bogle California Merlot
Winery Location: Clarksburg CA
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: July 2023
Tasting Notes: the color is a medium dark, purple red. On the nose berries and cherries are prominent, with herbal notes and a touch of oak. There’s a hint of cherry twizzler, which happens to be one of my favorite candies. Medium+ in body, the palate continues the fruit parade. The wine has medium tannins and acid and a nice balance. Overall this is quite enjoyable, with some complexity and length. For around $10 it doesn’t get much better.
Price Point – $9-$12
Would We Buy It? – all the time. This is a great value and would make a nice house red.
Bogle does an amazing job delivering value wines across their line. They’ve been doing it for more than 50 years, and I wouldn’t expect them to stop anytime soon.
A votre santé!
