Sometimes you should break out of the mold and try something new. This is true in every aspect of life, and certainly is when it comes to wine and spirits. There are so many unique and different beverages out there, from all corners of the world. Here is one from Great Britain, a classic drink produced since 1740 in merry old London. Let’s take a look.
Wine: Stone’s Original Ginger NV
Winery Location: London, England
Tasted By: Neil Date: November 2021
Tasting Notes: Now this is different. Made with grape wine, and flavored with sugar beet, natural ginger and caramel for color, this was something I didn’t really expect to like. But I do. Think of an alcoholic ginger ale. Traditionally this would be used as a mixer, and when combined with scotch makes a ‘Whiskey Mac”. I don’t mix my scotch with anything, so for me this was a sipper, and it works. The ginger flavor is strong and very pleasant. You could use it as an aperitif, and really almost as a gastrique. I’m a fan. 13.5% alcohol.
Price Point – SRP of $12.99
Would We Buy It? – I would buy this. After having a small glass a day for a few days I found myself liking it more and more. Recommend you serve this chilled.
Variety is a good thing, and this was an unexpected wine with an unexpected flavor profile.
