This winter has been brutal, with unending cold, snow and ice. Sometimes it’s hard to believe spring will ever get here, but it will. One sign is that Mark Gasbarro is starting his wine tasting series again, and that is a good thing. The next one is Wednesday, March 4th, between 6 and 8 PM, and will feature the wines of Stag’s Leap from Napa Valley. If you’ve never been to a tasting at Mark’s you should try one. They put on the best free wine tasting around anywhere, and the wines are always world class.

2012 KARIA Chardonnay Napa Valley • 100% Chardonnay
This graceful Chardonnay opens with aromas of pear and apple along with a subtle spice note. The wine has a soft entry and crisp finish with hints of vanilla. There is a nice balance to the acidity and minerality that enhances the freshness and elegance of this wine.
2012 ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley • 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 2% Malbec
This ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon offers inviting aromas of black cherry and plum with hints of vanilla. On the palate, the wine has a soft entry with ripe mixed berry and plum flavors. The wine has a medium-bodied mouthfeel with round, satin-like tannins.
2011 FAY Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley • 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
The aromas are followed by red and blue fruit flavors that meld with black licorice, black raspberry tea and sage on the palate. The wine has a sweet fruit entry with structured tannins – promising long life in the cellar – and a lingering floral note on the finish.
2010 S.L.V. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley • 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
This wine offers ripe black cherry and blueberry aromas with hints of cedar and spice. A powerful entry leads to a rich and full palate of black currant and red fruit with anise and cocoa top notes.
2009 CASK 23 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley • 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Enticing notes of Bing cherry, red fruit, cassis and anise. Broad and expansive palate with intense black cherry, blackberry and cassis flavors along with pleasing vanilla and toasted oak accents. The wine has a beautiful texture with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish.
