Summer Sparkler Time

It’s full blown Springtime, which means it is soon to be Summertime.  While we enjoy sparkling wine all year round, some do consider a chilled bottle of bright, tiny bubbles as something ideally suited to warmer weather.  Whatever works is our motto.  And what frequently works in any weather is a good bottle of Prosecco.

Made in the Veneto of Northeast Italy, using primarily the Glera grape, Prosecco is produced in the Charmat method.  In this method the secondary fermentation which provides the bubbles in the bubbly is done in a large tank under pressure.  Then the juice is bottled.  Proseccos can be bone dry to slightly sweet, and fruity.  The best can give you an almost Champagne like quality.

Here we have one true Prosecco for consideration.  In addition we have a Rosé made the same way, but using Merlot.   Let’s see what’s in the bottles.

Da Luca ProseccoWine:    Da Luca Prosecco

Winery Location:   Grapes from the Veneto Region of Italy

Tasted By:   Neil & Cheri                      Date:  May 2021

Tasting Notes:  a light straw color with green and golden flecks.  This wine has some body, is very crisp and brings a lot of fruit, including peaches and apples.  There are some citrus notes as well.   You get more citrus on the palate.  Just off dry, it finishes clean.  This is well made and really a great value.

Price Point –    SRP of $14.99

Would We Buy It?    Absolutely.  This is a tasty and well made Prosecco.

And now the Rosé:

Da Luca RoseWine:    Da Luca Sparkling Rosé

Winery Location:   Again, grapes from the Veneto

Tasted By:   Neil & Cheri             Date:  May 2021

Tasting Notes:  the color here is a light, pinky orange.  The nose brings strawberry and some toasty notes.  On the palate there is a hint of sweetness, and tangerine.  The wine is bright and very refreshing.  At the same time it has some qualities of higher priced bubbly, such as those toasty notes.  It really dinks like a wine priced much higher.  This is exceptionally well made for the money, and while the Prosecco is good, this is my favorite.  By a lot.

Price Point –    SRP $14.99

Would We Buy It? –   all day long.  This is a great wine for the money.  Highly recommended.

These are both worthy of your consideration, and good values.  The Rosé is exceptional for the price.

A votre santé!
