As I get older I find myself drinking more sparkling wine. I’m not sure why, but it does seem to be a definite trend. This includes everything sparkling, from French Champagne to light and fresh Italian Moscato, and everything in between. They’re fun, but also complex, fruity and downright delicious. Pick a few superlatives and you can find a sparkling wine to fit, and that includes red wines as well. There’s a whole world of bubbles out there.
Here we’ll take a look at two wines from Italy that represent classic styles and popular choices.
Wine: Ca Di Prata Brut Prosecco
Winery Location: Veneto, Italy
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: January 2022
Tasting Notes: light straw colored with a nose of green apple, some red grapefruit, lemon as well as a little floral. This has nice bubbles, with a fine structure and persistence over several days. The palate is clean and crisp with a long finish. This is dry and really well done.
Price Point – $16
Would We Buy It? – yes we would. This is a high quality Prosecco at a very reasonable price. It is dry, so if you like a little sweetness in your Prosecco this is not for you. Really though, if you want some sweetness in your sparkler you should consider the next wine.
Winery Location: Piemonte, Italy
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: January, 2022
Tasting Notes: this is a very pale golden color. The nose has pear, hawthorne, honeycomb and some spice. This has some noticeable sweetness, and is clean and fresh. It is just a lovely wine, delicious and beautifully made.
Price Point – $18
Would We Buy It? – absolutely. This is really delicious and a great value. The bottle is also gorgeous and would look wonderful on the table at a special event. But buy it for what’s inside.
Both of the wines above are excellent values and quality wines. The Asti Spumante is just flat out delicious. The Prosecco is a great example at a value price. Both are highly recommended.
