Red, White and Brew, a fundraiser for Trinity Repertory Company, is coming next Saturday, March 14th at the Pell Chafee Performance Center. This is a great way to eat, drink and be merry while supporting everything that Trinity does, including their education and outreach programs. We love Trinity, and have been members for years. To get an idea of exactly what to expect I stopped by Bottles Fine Wines, which is sponsoring the event, and talked with Eric Taylor, General Manager and the person responsible for the wines, beers and bourbons. Here’s a little preview.
While Eric insisted there is not a theme, that in itself is the theme. There’s a little bit of everything, from all around the wine world. Also, four Rhode Island craft breweries will be pouring their potions during the evening. Wines include many out of the ordinary varietals, and some you probably have not tried before. These include a Furmint from Hungary, an Albarino from Spain, a Cahors from France (this is Malbec, but not like the big fruit bombs you’ve tried from Argentina) as well as a true Bordeaux Blanc (a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle). You’ll also find some Cabernet and Pinot Noir, probably a Pinot Grigio too. What’s nice is that their probably not the mainstream producers you’re used to, and even better they will all be affordable. Nothing on Eric’s wine list retailed for more that $29.99, most were considerably less. So you can explore the wine world a bit without being overwhelmed, find some new favorites and even afford to buy them. To top it off you can order at the event, or for a few days afterward, and Bottles is contributing 20% to Trinity. How can you go wrong?
There will be a bourbon tasting as well, although it will set you back some extra change. That’s primarily because they’ll be pouring some elite spirits, including:
-W.L. Weller 12 year
-Elijah Craig 23 year
-Wild Turkey “Diamond Anniversary”
-Four Roses “Bottles Edition” Single Brew
-Parker’s Heritage Collection Single Barrel
I believe you can upgrade to the bourbon on the spot if you find it too tempting to pass up once you’re there.
This should be fun. Just remember to eat something as well in between the liquid refreshment! Particulars are below.
A votre sante!
