The warmer weather is fast approaching, and with it will come outdoor gatherings, picnics in the park, and the desire for refreshing wines which say “Hello Spring and Summer!” For many this equates with something pink, and most of the time that means Rosé. I have become somewhat of a convert to Rosé over the past few years. For a long time I associated it with lower quality, which is an egregious mistake and unfair, to say the least. Rosé is actually well worth anyone’s attention. There are super high quality versions, and many great value wines to be found. And yes, it is delicious on a summer day. You can get it very dry to slightly sweet, so there is something for everyone. It might be made from Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah or another red grape. The variety is impressive.
Here we have two French Rosé wines for your consideration.
Wine: 2020 Fête des Fleurs Rosé
Wine Source: Côtes de Provence, France
Tasted By: Neil Date: March 2022
Tasting Notes: the color is beautiful, a rich, pinky orange like a brilliant padparadscha sapphire. On the nose it presents citrus, orange and ginger. This is an elegant wine, with good acid and a clean finish. It’s a bit different, in a very good way. I think it’s excellent and it is recommended. Definitely a European old world flair to this.
Price Point – $18.99 SRP and a good value.
Would We Buy It? – Yes we would. As mentioned above, there’s an elegance and class to this wine, while still remaining bright and refreshing.
And the second wine:
Wine: 2019 Art of Earth Organic Rosé
Wine Source: France
Tasted By: Neil Date: March 022
Tasting Notes: This is a light, pinky salmon in color, with a nose of raspberry, orange and other citrus. The wine has some texture, is very smooth but also lively with nice balance. It stays clean through the long finish. Overall it is a very pleasing wine.
Price Point – SRP $13.99, and a solid value there.
Would We Buy It? – Absolutely. This is a very well made Rosé at a great price point. Highly recommended.
So there are two pink options if you are so inclined. If you close your eyes, what you get are two solid wines, regardless of the color.
A votre santé!
