They make some pretty amazing red wines in Argentina, especially in Mendoza and the Uco Valley. This is one to take note of, and while it is a bit young right now, it will be absolutely stunning in a few years.
Wine: 2015 Felipe Staiti Vertigo
Winery Location: Mendoza, Argentina
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: Decemer 2019
Tasting Notes: Marcelo Pelleriti is a rock star producer in Mendoza, and was the first Latin American winemaker to ever get a 100 point score from Robert Parker. This particular wine is a blend of 70% Malbec, 20% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc. You get lots of blueberry, and some violets. There is earth and some red fruit. It is big, tannic and full bodied. I would desribe it as racy right now. The pieces are all there, they just need a little time to fully integrate. Certainly delicious now, this will be even better after a year or two in the cellar (if you can wait that long!).
Price Point – we paid $25, and it is a steal there.
Would We Buy It? – Absolutely! This is a great wine that is going to get even better.
Sometimes you find $50 bottles for $25, which is what happened here. We’ll take that deal anytime.
A votre santé!
