We’ve written about several outstanding Beaujolais recently, from the 2018 vintage. Here we’ll talk about yet another, from Moulin-A-Vent. This is a Cru Beaujolais, which come from ten designated villages that represent the pinnacle of quality in Beaujolais. These can be quite ageworthy, serious red wines. This is one of them.
Wine: 2018 Domaine des Rosiers Moulin-A-Vent
Winery Location: Moulin-A-Vent, Beaujolais, France
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: August 2020
Tasting Notes: this wine continues the great run of 2018 Beaujolais we’ve tasted recently. The wine is a dark, purple red in color, with a nose of ripe fruit and a touch of earth. There is some spice and vanilla cream as well. This is richer than your usual Beaujolais. On the palate it is medium+ in body, just shy of full. The experience is rich and complex, with some berry fruit, a hint of Kirsch and a very long finish. Tannins are about medium, and provide structure. This is an excellent and delicious wine, one that is hard to resist now, and that will age effortlessly for a few years.
Price Point – SRP of $27.99
Would We Buy It? – we would. This is a juicy yet refined Beaujolais, and the most descriptive word we can think of is ‘delicious’. Recommended.
Most people think of Beaujolais as lighter, fruity, easy drinking juice best suited for a picnic. It can be so much more. Try some of their top end to find out why.
A votre santé!
