Great values under $20 in California Cabernet Sauvignon are hard to find, so when you do find one it is best to stock up. The wine we’ll talk about here is clealy one of these wines.
Longevity Wines is a small, family operated urban winery located in the Livermore AVA of California. Winemaker Phil Long is the founder of Longevity Wines, and found his way to fermenting grape juice after a successful career in industry. Phil was named president of the Association of African American Vintners in January 2020 and is devoted to elevating awareness of African Americans and other minorites in the wine industry. He’s been making wine for a decade, and based on this red we hope he continues for a very long time. Here’s the wine:
Wine: 2021 Longevity California Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Location: Livermore CA
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: June 2024
Tasting Notes: this is a deep red, more of a pure red than a ruby color. It is vibrant and lively in the glass, with a nose of red fruits, including currant, as well as blueberry and cherry. There is caramel and mocha too, as it is quite complex. On the palate the juice is rich, with a wonderfull fruit core that just screams Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium+ body. Some chocolate wraps in during the long finsh almost like a dessert. This is a beautifully pure expression of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Price Point – under $20. We paid $19 but have seen it for $17 local to us.
Would We Buy It? – Yes, by the case. This is a great wine at twice the price, for under $20 it is sort of silly, but we’ll take it! Supreme value here, expecially if you like Cabernet Sauvignon.
This is definitely one of those wines you’ll wish you had purchased more of when it’s gone. It should drink very well over the next 4-5 years, so do consider stocking up. We tried it, bought a few and then went back for more while it was still available.
A votre santé!
