Here is a good value everyday red which will go great with pizza, tacos or some paella. It’s from the Costers del Segre winemaking region of northeast Spain, in Catalunya. The DO region is actually several smaller, disjointed areas that all fall under the same designation. Not too far from high profile amd expensive areas such as Priorat, this is an area for value. Let’s take a look.
Wine: 2022 Danaus Costers del Segre Red Blend
Winery Location: Catalunya, Spain
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: August 2024
Tasting Notes: This is a blend of 45% Tempranillo, 45% Garnacha Tinta and 10% Canernet Sauvignon. The color is a medium ruby, and the nose has some interesting fruit out of the bottle, with blueberry and cherry. Add in some vanilla cream and it is a fairly complex nose. Medium bodied, the wine reveals cherry fruit on the palate primarily. The juice has refreshing acid and good overall balance, as well as good length. It is a pleasing sipping wine and goes great with a wide variety of foods. Think someting spicy or somewhat acidic.
Price Point – SRP of $13
Would We Buy It? – yes, absoultely. This is a good value at $13 and would make an excellent house wine.
Spain is a region of extreme value in some areas, especially if you like aged wine. This is a young wine, but a good one. Open one of these with some paella and pretend you’re sitting in a cafe in Barcelona.
