Over the past few years we’ve reviewed several vintages of Ron Rubin Brands’ wine. Ron makes wine in Sonoma County under several labels, including Ron Rubin, Pam’s Un-oaked and River Road. The wines are consistently rated for high value, showing crisp fruit and a smooth palate. Last year the 2020 River Road un-oaked Chardonnay took home the 13th spot in our Top 20 of 2021 list (you can see that here). Here we’ll take a look at the 2021 vintage of Pam’s UN-oaked Chardonnay, as well as a new kid on the block – the 2021 UN-oaked Cabernet Sauvignon.
Wine: 2021 Ron Rubin Brands – Pam’s UN-oaked Chardonnay
Winery Location: Sonoma Valley
Tasted By: Neil Date: December 2022
Tasting Notes – Light golden color precedes a nose with pear, tropical and citrus fruit. It is ripe fruit. You get the same on the palate. The wine is nicely focused and clean, with good balance. It finishes quite long. If you like un-oaked Chardonnay (which I do) then you will like this.
Price Point – $14
Would We Buy It? – Absolutely. This is a great option when you want the rich fruit from a Chardonnay without the oaky notes.
and now the Cab:
Wine: 2021 Ron Rubin Brands – Pam’s UN-oaked Cabernet Sauvignon
Winery Location: Sonoma Valley
Tasted By: Neil & Cheri Date: December 2022
Tasting Notes: Medium red color with a nose of plum, cherry and berry. To say this is fruit forward is an understatement. It’s leaning toward the tart side, but in a good, fresh way. The palate is pure fruit, and it really is simply delicious. A long finish caps it off. It’s not complex, but it isn’t trying to be. What is does try to be is wonderfully fruity, and it succeeds with excess.
Price Point – $16
Would We Buy It? – Yes. This is fun and delicious. It’s a great red for someone just starting down the red wine road. You’ll get the fruit profile, some tannin and a lot of pleasure, but not the all of the complexity and bone dry tannins that can turn some people off initially. This is good, and a good value.
So there you have two more wines from Ron Rubin Brands which tick the value box. It seems to be a trend.
